Discover the Atico Valley – unlocking the mysteries of pre-Columbian Peru.
Nestled at the crossroads of mountains and deserts in southern Peru, the Atico Valley is a region virtually unknown to archaeologists—a landscape shaped by the interplay of great Andean and coastal cultures.
Our project, funded by the National Science Centre (Poland) and run by a Polish-Peruvian research team, is a pioneering and comprehensive initiative to uncover the history of this unique area—from early hunter-gatherer times to the flourishing of the Wari civilisation.
Through interdisciplinary research that brings together archaeology, the natural sciences and cutting-edge technology, we aim to reconstruct the lives of ancient communities and shed light on the intercultural relationships that shaped southern Peru.
We invite you to explore the latest research findings, remarkable discoveries, and the fascinating stories of the people who called the Atico Valley home thousands of years ago.
